Beetaloo Energy Australia, previously Empire Energy, has achieved significant milestones in its development of the Northern Territory’s Beetaloo Basin gas field.
Traditional owners from the Mambaliya Rrumburriya Wuyaliya Aboriginal Land Trust granted formal consent for the sale of appraisal gas during an On-Country meeting facilitated by the Northern Land Council near Cape Crawford in late June.
This six-year agreement enables Beetaloo Energy to supply gas which will help power the Northern Territory’s domestic grid, laying a foundation for future full-scale production and marking a significant step in one of Australia’s most promising energy developments.
The consent reflects a strengthening partnership between industry, traditional owners, and regulators, ensuring local communities benefit economically and socially.
Concurrently, Beetaloo Energy has commenced hydraulic stimulation at its Carpentaria-5H well - the longest horizontal shale gas well in Australian history at 3.31 kilometres.
Lead by experienced United States company Halliburton, the well underwent 60 stimulation stages, with production flow testing expected to proceed to production.
The well, part of the Carpentaria Pilot Project, will connect to a new gas plant to be under construction within months, advancing the basin’s commercial prospects.
Alongside Tamboran Resources’ record-breaking flow rates in the basin, Beetaloo Energy’s progress underscores the Territory’s growing significance in securing domestic energy supply.
